I have yet to meet an audiophile in this part of the world, especially from the Chinese community, who has not heard of singer Susan Wong.
At every showroom I have been to there will always be a Susan Wong CD for demo purposes. She is indeed extremely popular among Chinese audiophiles who love her ‘breathy’ style of singing and the clarity of her inhalation of air as she takes a deep breath before singing the next line is a measure of the quality of the stereo system.
Linn must have been aware of her fame and legions of fans in this part of the world. That would explain why Linn is offering Studio Master hi-res downloads for her albums (licensed from Evosound).
The latest Susan Wong album on offer for download by Linn is ‘My Live Stories‘.
Susan herself describes the album as her “best recording yet” and the list of songs will surely satisfy the most demanding of Asian audiophiles.
The titles are: You’ve Got A Friend (Carole King); Billie Jean (Michael Jackson); Something (George Harrison); (They Long To Be) Close To You (Burt F. Bacharach / Hal David); September (Allee Willis, Al McKay, Maurice White); You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman (Gerry Goffin, Wexler, Carole King); What A Difference A Day Made (S. Adams, M. Grever); Perfect (Mark Edward Cascian Nevin); Cry Me A River (Arthur Hamilton); I Will Survive (Frederick J. Perren, Dino Fekaris); Love Will Keep Us Alive (Jim Capaldi, Paul Carrack, Peter Vale); California Dreaming (Michelle G. Phillips, John EA Phillips); When You Say Nothing At All (Paul Overstreet, Donald Alan Schiltz Jr); Sometimes When We Touch (Daniel Grafton Hill, Barry Mann); Have You Ever Seen The Rain
(John Fogerty); Do That To Me One More Time (Toni Tenille); Desperado (Glenn Lewis Frey, Donald Hugh Henley).
The songs were recorded live over two days at the world famous Ocean Way Studios, Nashville, USA.
Susan Wong’s website states: “With an ensemble of top notch session musicians and a first-class recording environment inside a 100-year-old converted church, Susan performed a selection of her favourite songs from her previous albums along with all-new songs. Highlights include the bossa nova influenced Billie Jean, the blues tinged Cry Me A River, an up tempo version of Perfect and a spine tingling performance of Desperado.”
Other Susan Wong albums offered by Linn for download are: Step Into My Dreams, 511 and Someone Like You.
The downloads are available in MP3, CD quality in FLAC and ALAC, and 24/96 quality in FLAC and ALAC.
