There I was heading to CMY Audio & Visual on the first floor of Sungei Wang Plaza when I spotted a new hi-fi showroom called The High End Audio.
The door was locked, but I could hear music playing and through the glass facade I could see a pair of Focal floorstanders connected to monoblocks. On the rear wall lit up by LED light was the name of the product: ‘Goldmund’.
The high-end uber-expensive Swiss marque has returned to the Malaysian hi-fi market. I knew that CMY is the Malaysian Focal and Naim distributor. so I was wondering if CMY was somehow involved in this new venture.
The High End Audio showroom is just two shoplots from CMY. When I entered CMY’s showroom I met John Yew, the boss, and I asked him who was behind the new venture.
John said his friend, a rich audiophile who keeps a low profile, has become the distributor for Goldmund products in Malaysia and CMY is collaborating with him by supplying Focal speakers to his showroom which opened about three weeks ago without any fanfare.
The demo system in The High End Audio showroom is, well, pretty high end. It comprises:
